I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED MY GOAL of losing 25 pounds over the past year and two months. I just had my annual physical at my primary-care physician’s office and had an official weigh-in. It took 14 months to reach my goal, during which I steadily adopted new, healthier lifestyle and diet strategies.
Six new behaviors emerged as I started tackling my weight reduction.
Bob’s Weight Loss Behaviors
· I journaled, recorded daily food choices, and counted calories.
· I read articles daily on wellness and gradually moved toward a Mediterranean-style diet.
· I began moving to smaller portions.
· I tolerated one bad food episode a week.
· I became fascinated with my “hunger response,” which could be tamed by the natural effect of GLP-1 stimulation by certain food groups.
· I began a 30-minute, 6-day-a-week routine that included walking, stretching, hand weights, and Tai Chi routines.
I also took on a strategy of lifting 3 lbs. of packaged ground beef in the meat department at my grocery store, imagining it on my body. Just lifting the package became a motivator for me to adopt better eating habits and focus on shedding pounds.
Also, my heart will benefit from this weight loss, as it has experienced some issues, mostly related to my advancing age this year, serving as a further wake-up call for me to lose weight.
I’m proud of my actions, happy with my continuing success, and most thankful that I’ve met the challenge.
